MIDOU PROJECT 2

Park + Restaurant + Hotel / Hasami Nagasaki / 2024

Midouya is a restaurant and hotel located in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, a town renowned for its ceramics.
The floor is made of ceramic tiles, the walls and furniture feature “saraita”, the counter is decorated with small plates, and the foundation incorporates fragments of excavated tea bowls—all crafted from materials native to this region.
A new exterior wall, which also serves as a rain gutter, was installed 60 cm outside the original exterior wall, enabling a flexible sash configuration. And the steel frames for seismic reinforcement and the black-framed glass windows harmonize with the existing columns.
The design, which connects the old folk house to the chimney through a skeleton structure factory, creates a symbolic space that bridges the past and the future.
